Specialist Service
Parquet & Herringbone Restoration
Parquet and herringbone floors are among the most beautiful — and most demanding — floors to restore. Loose or lifted blocks, crumbling adhesive, uneven surfaces and decades of old finish all require specialist attention before sanding can begin.
Our parquet restoration process starts with a thorough assessment: we identify every loose block, check the subfloor and map any areas of damage. We re-lay and re-bond all loose blocks, fill gaps with colour-matched filler, then sand the entire surface flat using our dust-free system. The result is a perfectly level, seamless floor ready for your chosen finish — oil, lacquer or wax.
Book a Free Parquet SurveyRe-laying loose & lifted blocks
Every loose block is removed, the subfloor cleaned and the block re-bonded with appropriate adhesive. We source matching replacement blocks where needed.
Gap filling & levelling
Gaps between blocks are filled with flexible, colour-matched filler. The surface is then sanded flat to remove any height variation between blocks.
Dust-free sanding
We use Bona belt and edge sanders with dust extraction throughout. Parquet requires careful sanding at 45° to the block direction to avoid grain tear-out.
Staining, oiling or lacquering
We apply your chosen finish — hardwax oil for a natural look, water-based lacquer for durability, or traditional wax for period properties.
Board replacement
We source and fit matching replacement boards for damaged, split or missing sections. Colour and grain matching is included.
Gap filling
Flexible wood filler matched to your floor colour is applied before sanding, so the result is seamless and flush.
Squeaky board repair
Squeaks are caused by boards rubbing against each other or the subfloor. We identify the cause and fix it — usually without lifting the boards.
Subfloor levelling
Uneven subfloors cause high spots and hollow sections. We assess and level the subfloor before sanding to ensure a flat, stable result.
Stair tread restoration
Worn, scratched or painted stair treads are sanded and refinished to match the landing floor. Nosing repairs included.
Water damage repair
Cupped, stained or warped boards caused by water ingress are assessed and treated. We advise on whether sanding or replacement is the right solution.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does floor sanding take?
A typical room (up to 20m²) takes one full day for sanding and the first coat of finish. Subsequent coats are applied the following day. Larger areas or multiple rooms are usually completed within two to three days.
Is the process dusty?
We use Bona dust-free sanding systems that capture over 99% of dust at source. The room will have minimal dust during the process and virtually none afterwards — far cleaner than traditional open sanding.
How soon can I walk on the floor after sanding?
With hardwax oil finishes you can walk on the floor after 12–24 hours. Water-based lacquers require 24–48 hours before light foot traffic. We will advise the exact timings for your chosen finish.
Can you match my existing floor colour?
Yes — we carry a wide range of stains and oils and can blend custom tones to match adjacent flooring or your preferred shade. We always apply a test patch in an inconspicuous area before proceeding.
Do you sand engineered wood floors?
Yes, provided the wear layer is at least 4mm thick. We assess this during the survey using a moisture meter and visual inspection. Thinner wear layers can sometimes be lightly abraded and re-oiled rather than fully sanded.
How many times can a floor be sanded?
Solid hardwood floors can typically be sanded four to six times over their lifetime. Each sanding removes approximately 1–2mm of wood. Engineered floors with a 4mm+ wear layer can usually be sanded once or twice.
Do I need to move out during sanding?
For water-based finishes, the property can usually be re-occupied the same evening with care. Oil-based products have a stronger odour and we recommend ventilating overnight. We will advise based on your chosen finish.
Can you repair gaps between boards before sanding?
Yes — we offer gap filling using flexible wood filler matched to your floor colour. This is done before sanding so the filler is sanded flush with the boards for a seamless result.
Do you restore parquet and herringbone floors?
Yes — parquet and herringbone restoration is a speciality. We re-lay loose or lifted blocks, fill gaps, sand the entire surface flat and apply your chosen finish. The result is indistinguishable from a new floor.
